Posterity is a song written from a multi-temporal perspective. This is a song about carrying weight, looking both forwards and backwards. The first half of the song is written to my mom about my mental health. Through the lens of a generational approach, I see my life and all its hardships as tiring but something beautiful that a past generation is responsible for. However, the second half of the song is forward looking and is written about how my present self feels the pressure (that I'm sure past generations of my family have felt) to do something meaningful with my life, and hope that this impact is carried on in the future.
lyrics
One day, one day
I'll get over this
Everyday I wake up to the sun
Wondering what went wrong
I'm sorry, time's coming
Is it selfish to be stuck inside my head?
Is it selfish that I'm always sad?
I'm sorry
It couldn't be worse
I want to apologize to my Mom
I'm tired but I'm going to hang on
For you, for you
...
Head's half in the clouds
All love when I'm down
Floating, I'm floating
Enjoy myself for now
Clocks won't bring me down
Slowly, go slowly
Think I'm going to see beyond this
Think I'm going to see beyond this
Think I'm going to see beyond this
Think I'm going, think I'm going
One day
