Snowmelt is a two-pronged song. The first half is meant to evoke a feeling of recovery, where out of hardship, aging, and suffering eventually comes the feeling of being grounded. "Snowmelt" felt like the right word, where things are still cold but it's about shedding that blanket of weight. The back half of the track is purposefully in reverse; it is a recording of another song in my catalogue called "Headlights" that is about always chasing dreams and never finding the proverbial light. I think what you learn from the hardships and struggle, that is talked about in the first half, is important for finding what you need before you take the next steps. The metaphor here is that instead of always chasing dreams, sometimes you need to first shed the weight that is blocking "the light" from shining on you.
lyrics
They said it wouldn't be too easy, they were right
Are you all that you want to be? Tinted eyes
It's cold and it's gray
Symptoms of the age
Capital color, I know why
The puddles came
Take a breath of cold air
Feel the wind in your hair
(don't go) You are (Allah, Allah) you
Are a lighthouse
