This song tackles the relationship between my responsibilities as a Muslim in an Islamophobic Western world and my dreams of tranquility and peace. This song recognizes the distance between the "American Dream" and personal dreams for Muslim Americans. Further, this song recognizes the role of the West, a place Muslim Americans are trying to find peace in, in oppressing Muslims abroad. From turning the other cheek to the ethnocide that the settler state of Israel is conducting in Palestine (and continuing to support such operations), to completely ignoring China ethnic cleansing its Uighur population, to taxes going to American imperialist wars in the Middle East, to the Islamophobia I faced as a Muslim child, this song connects the dots for my primarily Western audience.
lyrics
what's it mean? American Dream you dont
want to see, something so liberal
terrorize me, well Gaza’s streets are gone
cleansed in Beijing, rinsed hands won’t take that off
20% of, 20% of all
whats the point of wealth writing checks for Reagan’s war
you don't
see the world just like
everyone
youre not anyone
you lost the language
cuz you were embarrassed
by Cheney’s war
inclusions lure
brown eyes
don’t cry
just speak your words (Assalamu Alaiykum)
you don’t know your worth
they’re guilty (vultures)
they’re guilty (cultures)
of western work
they’re silencers (crusaders)
…
im lacking
in self respect
survivance
it pounds my head
or my shoulders
again
down by the river
waiting for change
i know a harbor
free of the pain
i’ll go
one day
little green house of mine
strands of fur, wood chimes
old sweater, its just a dream (so it goes)
just for me
wind’s up
